This is an update and follow up to my first post on GOAL and KPOC, who are responsible for the Global LPO and Litigation Outsourcing conferences in London and New York.
After I disclosed in ?Conference Scam: Beware of GOAL? how GOAL and KPOC have stolen most of the topics for their London and New York conference from ACC and other organizations, GOAL reacted and initiated several measures to remedy at least some of the issues:
The statement GOAL issued yesterday on its website and LinkedIn Group is appreciated. However, this does not mean that all issues are solved:
- The statement mentions that ?External Research and IT Teams made a mistake.? The setting of the agenda should be the core responsibility of every conference organizer. It is difficult to understand how you can outsource this task to an external research team. Also, it is more than embarrassing if an outsourcing association (GOAL) or outsourcing consulting company (KPOC) seems not to be in a position to choose reliable external outsourcing partners.
- I am surprised that the statement does not mention who the External Research and IT Teams were that made a mistake. The site with all Goal partners lists one Research Partner, RichCount. The link to richcount.com reveals a parked website, no further information. Owner of the parked domain is Neeraj Parnami, Neyox Outsourcing Pvt. Ltd., West Coast 1235 Puerta del Sol, #100 San Clemente. GOAL and KPOC have exactly the same US address. It seems that the mistake was not caused by an external partner, but by a very close affiliate of GOAL / KPOC. Furthermore: If Neyox and RichCount were involved in this mistake, why are they then still listed and recommended to the conference audience as partners?
- The statement understates that ?few? of the topics have been copied from ACC. Fact is however, that GOAL copied 44% of the NY and 63% of the London conference topics from ACC.
- The corrected speakers information for the London event contained again one member of ACC Europe?s board that never confirmed participation. Only after this person complained with P. Parnami, his picture and bio was removed.
- The statement offers no information or explanation on the issues raised in section 3 of this post. How is GOAL organized? Who are the directors? How are they elected? What are the rights of GOAL members? Who is in charge of GOAL?s finances? What happens with GOAL?s profits? Why are speakers made believe that they act for GOAL when factually all profits of webinars and conferences are to the benefit of KPOC? How do GOAL and KPOC cooperate? Is the profit of the conferences and webinars shared with GOAL, does GOAL profit in any way from its cooperation with KPOC? What happens with the member fees paid by GOAL members? Where can members see tha accounts of GOAL? etc.
Given their past mistakes, GOAL was well advised to make these changes to program and website and to issue the statement. However, blaming an anonymous third party seems to me no more than a paltry excuse. I somehow have the impression that the persons behind the organization knew exactly what they were doing: ?Let?s try it, if someone complains, we can still re-draft the program. Not much to worry here, non-profit organizations like ACC are not aggressive, maybe they complain, but chances are low that they sue us.?
Reputable organizations do not use such methods, and if they outsource certain tasks, they ensure that the outsourcing partners are reliable and comply with the law. I therefore still advise to avoid GOAL and their conferences. There are sufficient alternatives, you should choose one of these alternatives if you want to spend your money for conferences.

Members of the Club at Longview will lose a few playing days next month when the Chiquita Classic relocates from Cincinnati, following the lead of its title sponsor, so developer Mel Graham conjured a memorable make-good. This weekend, the club hosts its first Longview Invitational for members, with a $250,000 Aston Martin going to anyone who sinks a hole-in-one on the 175-yard, par-3 10th hole.
?We?re giving away 007?s car,? Graham says, alluding to James Bond?s preferred transportation mode. ?We were scratching our heads, ?What can we do that would be really cool???
Graham says the member field will be capped at 80 players and the hole-in-one contest will run through Labor Day weekend. Longview is the area?s only Jack Nicklaus signature-design golf course, the centerpiece of a 1,000-acre gated community. The golf course opened in 2003.
The Chiquita Classic, part of the Nationwide Tour, the golf world's equivalent of Triple-A baseball, runs Sept. 24-30 at Longview.

Ex-News International legal chief arrested
The former legal advisor to Rupert Murdoch's News International newspaper group was arrested in London on Thursday by police investigating alleged phone hacking.
Tom Crone, 60, was held at his home on suspicion of conspiring to intercept communications and was taken for questioning at a police station.
He is the 25th person to be arrested under Operation Weeting, the London Metropolitan Police's investigation into allegations of phone hacking, mainly at the now-defunct News of the World tabloid.
The probe is being run alongside two separate investigations -- Operation Elveden, which is looking at alleged corrupt payments to public officials, and Operation Tuleta, which concerns accusations of computer hacking and other privacy breaches including the alleged hacking of stolen mobile phones.
So far 43 people have been arrested under Elveden and 11 under Tuleta.
Rebekah Brooks, the former chief executive of News International and once a close aide to Murdoch, is due to appear at a magistrates court in London on Monday on phone hacking charges, which she denies.
Brooks is accused of one general charge of conspiracy to illegally access voicemails, and two others relating to murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler and a former union boss.
Seven other people including David Cameron's former spin doctor Andy Coulson appeared at the same court earlier this month to face phone hacking charges.
The group includes six senior members of News of the World staff, who all face the general charge alongside Brooks, as well as specific counts linked to individual cases.
Murdoch shut down the News of the World in July last year after the extent of phone hacking at the tabloid emerged.
The scandal led to a public inquiry into press ethics being set up.

One of the consolations of these miserable dog days of summer is the abundance, in gardens and markets across the land, of ripe tomatoes; a season of suffering, sweating, and involuntary naps seems to be the price nature exacts on us for perfection in her fruits. If you have a garden, even a small one, it can be tough to stay on top of things during the high times. A dozen ripe tomatoes can go to rot with alarming speed, and although stuffing your face to save your tomatoes from decay is about as much fun as sex for the sole purpose of procreation, you may nonetheless find yourself grimly dishing out tomato breakfasts, tomato lunches, tomato dinners; gorging robotically on salsa, salad, caprese, BLTs, cold tomato soup .... There is a better way to deal with your excess, and it's not canning. (Come on?there?s no way you?re going to can all those tomatoes.) It's called ?cooking them.?
I don't have any hard numbers on how Americans consume their tomatoes, but I feel safe in conjecturing that by and large we eat the fresh ones raw and cook the canned ones. This at least was one of my best practices, a bit of uninterrogated conventional wisdom that I followed until recently, when my garden produced a sudden glut of Roma tomatoes. I'd always found Romas to be too mealy and bland for fresh eating, so I had no qualms about chopping them up to make a quick, simple sauce. I sliced a couple cloves of garlic?ineptly, with none of the Goodfellas-in-jail precision of Paul Sorvino?started them saut?ing in olive oil, added the tomatoes with a pinch of salt and sugar and then, like a bad cook, left the kitchen and went about my business.
When I returned after sending some emails, my bog-standard Romas had been transformed into one of the best sauces I?d ever tasted: a thick, rich paste with a tanginess that set my head vibrating. I hadn't done anything other than leave the room, but the results were superior, in all imaginable ways, to anything I'd ever made with more care and attention (not to mention seasoning) using canned tomatoes. More remarkable than the flavor was the texture, thick and viscous, almost chewy. I turned to Harold McGee's On Food and Cooking for an explanation: It turns out calcium salts, an additive that keeps canned tomatoes from being pummeled to a mush during processing and shipping, also prevent them from disintegrating so lusciously when cooked.
So, yes, you should cook your garden tomatoes, though there is a hitch: Not all of them will respond as magically to heat. But identifying the right ones is easy. For our purposes, there are two kinds of tomatoes: paste tomatoes (the ones you should make sauce out of) and non-paste tomatoes. All the other overlapping categories?determinate, indeterminate; stuffer, slicer, griller; beefsteak, cherry, globe?are irrelevant. Any tomato that is elongated is probably a paste tomato, as is any with plum or (naturally) paste in its name. Romas are paste tomatoes, which explains why fresh ones taste so mediocre, even at their peak of ripeness. Like all paste tomatoes, Romas are simply not meant to be eaten raw. They were created, through breeding, to be cooked.
The parent of most modern paste tomatoes is Italy's long-established San Marzano. Tomato pro Amy Goldman reckons the San Marzano is ?the most important industrial tomato of the 20th century,? as its commercial introduction in 1926 provided canneries with a sturdy, flawless subject, and breeders with genes they?d be raiding for decades. The canning industry eventually replaced the San Marzano with blander hybrids that had better resistance to disease and rot and were easier to harvest by machine; meanwhile, the Agriculture Department crossed the San Marzano with two other varieties (one of them itself a San Marzano crossing) and, in the mid-1950s, introduced the Roma tomato.
Pretty much everyone with an opinion on the matter believes the San Marzano is still unsurpassed for cooking, canning, and preserving. This is certainly the position of the country of Italy, which conferred on the San Marzano a ?protected designation of origin? status, such as is also enjoyed by Stilton cheese and the sparkling wines of the Champagne region. (This doesn't mean you can't grow San Marzanos in your backyard. You can.) Such reverence for a fruit that tastes unremarkable when eaten raw shows again (as though further proof were necessary) the genius of Italian cuisine. Meanwhile, our own hemisphere, the birthplace of the tomato, has generally been flummoxed by the paste tomato?s split personality. As Goldman recounts in The Heirloom Tomato, an 1886 Burpee seed company catalog reported that the King Humbert, a close relative of the San Marzano, ?was liked by many, while by others ... considered 'of no account.' ?

Isaac on verge of becoming a hurricane as it nears Gulf Coast
Tropical Storm Isaac is on the verge of becoming a Category 1 hurricane before it makes landfall, but forecasters say the biggest threat will be the rainfall and storm surge, not the wind.
Forecasters have projected landfall as early as tonight, a day short of the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu Monday said Isaac's path is similar to Katrina's and the anniversary has left much of the Gulf Coast on "a high level of anxiety."
Winds will be an issue initially when Isaac makes landfall with gusts up to 80 mph. Forecasters say the big threat will be the storm surge around New Orleans and Biloxi, Miss., where water might rise six to nine feet. The slow-moving storm is forecasted to hover over the Gulf Coast and could punish coastal areas with up to 20 inches of rain, which was one of the big concerns.
"One of the things that concerns me is not only is Isaac getting stronger slowly, and we think it's going to become a hurricane today, is it a large system, and the models show the forward speed slowing down, and that's not good, when a large system moves slowly, that means a lot of rainfall," Rick Knabb, director of the National Hurricane Center in Miami, told "Good Morning America" today.
As of 5 a.m. ET, the center of the storm was 125 miles southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi River and moving northwest at 12 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Knabb and Federal Emergency Management Agency director Craig Fugate say there has been too much focus on New Orleans' bracing for Isaac on the anniversary of Katrina.
"I think people need to understand this is not a New Orleans storm," Fugate said Monday. "This is a Gulf Coast storm."
Despite hurricane warnings extended across more than 330 miles from Louisiana to Western Florida, all eyes are still on New Orleans because this will be its first big test since Katrina. Louisiana has set up shelters and stockpiled more than a million packaged meals, 1.4 million bottles of water and 17,000 tarps.
Since the levees failed seven years ago, more than $14 billion have been spent on the 133-mile long floodwalls, spillways, gates and pumps surrounding New Orleans. While officials say the city is more prepared now than it was in 2005, it's still taking no chances when it comes to evacuations.
Fugate and Gov. Bobby Jindal warned people in low-lying areas to get out of Isaac's way.
"Today is the day," Jindal said Monday. "Today is the final day you should be taking any final precautions. If you want to evacuate, today is the day to do that."
Early Monday, 50,000 people had already evacuated from southeast Louisiana's St. Charles parish. In addition, 2,000 jail inmates have been moved out of Isaac's expected path.
Jindal said more than 4,000 National Guardsmen will be mobilized in case of emergency, but said he does not anticipate having to activate contraflow highway rules for evacuation purposes.
Jindal said President Obama called him Monday to say that the governor's request for a pre-landfall federal disaster declaration had been approved. The approval opens up federal funding to potentially help Louisiana cope with any damage.
"We are going to need help after the storm as well," Jindal said. "This is not going to be done just after the storm makes landfall or even just after the storm leaves Louisiana."
Isaac's slow pace means it "could actually cause more damage," the governor said.
He said the storm could batter areas with tropical winds for up to 36 hours and could dump more than a foot of rain while lingering over some areas.
Jindal said he is skipping the Republican National Convention in Florida, where he had been expected to speak, because of Isaac. "I will not be speaking or attending the Republican National Convention in Florida. There is no time for politics here in Louisiana," he said.
Fugate warned that Isaac's biggest punch might land in Alabama or Mississippi. The National Hurricane Center said to expect a storm surge of at least six feet, with the possibility it could reach up to 12 feet.
FEMA activated its command center in Atlanta Monday. Division Director Ginger Edwards says past disasters are driving prep for this storm.
"After every disaster we learn new lessons but you know we're constantly exercising with the states. We're planning with the states and just becoming more and more, more and more involved and more prepared," said Edwards.
Alabama and Mississippi have also declared a state of emergency.
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport said there are no flights scheduled for today and the airport will not be used as an evacuation shelter. People will not be allowed to stay in the terminal during the storm, the airport said in a statement Monday.
Isaac will bring welcomed rain to states in the Mississippi River Valley that have been in severe drought for much of the year.

3. Link your current work to your business plan - You should have a business planning process highlighting your objectives, strategies, and projects. At least once per week, schedule time to review your projects and ensure they align with your business plan.

The study's results suggest that extra body fat causes hormonal changes and inflammation that may drive some cases of breast cancer to spread and recur despite treatment.
Women who are obese when they are diagnosed with breast cancer have an increased risk of dying prematurely compared with women of normal weight. In this new study, Joseph Sparano, MD, of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Montefiore Medical Center, in Bronx, NY, and his colleagues across the US cancer cooperative groups compared the health outcomes of obese and overweight patients with others in a large group of women with stage I-III breast cancer who had participated in three National Cancer Institute-sponsored treatment trials led by the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (now part of the ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group). All of the trials (E1199, E5188, and E3189) required participants to have normal heart, kidney, liver, and bone marrow function, thereby excluding patients with other significant health issues. As a result, researchers were able to disentangle the influence of obesity from other factors affecting cancer recurrence and survival.
The researchers found that increasing body mass index -- a measure of the body's fat content -- significantly increased women's risk of cancer recurrence and death, despite optimal treatment including chemotherapy and hormonal therapy. There was a stepwise relationship between increasing body mass index and poor outcomes only in women with hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, the most common type of breast cancer that accounts for approximately two-thirds of all breast cancer cases in the United States and worldwide.

This is the sort of statement that would make a network executive?s head explode, due to the way traditional TV is budgeted and structured on a per-episode basis. But we?re on Netflix?s turf now. Unexplored territory.
Beyond Lilyhammer, which has been renewed for a second season, the industry hasn?t gotten much sense yet of how Netflix?s many high-profile in-the-works projects, such as Arrested, the Eli Roth series Hemlock Grove or the Kevin Spacey-starring House of Cards, will really work out ? especially because the question of how to promote a VOD project is still a bit up in the air.
With theatrical releases, you get premiere dates, big galas. But Netflix is so stealthy about announcing what?s available and what isn?t that websites and email services have been created to update people.

The term ?binge viewing? has been coined to describe how many TV fans now consume shows, gulping up entire seasons on DVD or streaming services. It?s a wonderful way to fall in love with a show ? just sinking into it the way you might sink into an epic novel. And Arrested?s new season, according to Cross, sounds designed with just that experience in mind:
I?m not gonna divulge anything, but I know what the stories are and what Mitch [Hurwitz] is doing, and it?s so layered. It?s really audacious and amazing. I think a lot of people will miss the work that is involved, the story, the Venn diagrams that are being created, the domino effect that characters have with each other in their various episodes. I know what he?s doing, and this has never been done on a TV show like this. This makes Lost look like a Spalding Grey monologue. You?ll have to watch each episode more than once.
Given the show?s pre-established track record for hidden jokes and gags, this sounds more than promising.
The AMC series Breaking Bad is a key example of a show that?s grown its audience thanks to binge viewing, indicated by how its ratings have increased with each season, as new viewers discover the show through Netflix. And if the guys who buy the commercials realize that all their commercials are being skipped, they?re going to stop buying commercials.
It?s an attitude you?ll hear elsewhere in the industry ? which may be why Netflix is doubling down on its subscription model. I couldn?t track down the budget for Arrested Development?s new season, but House of Cards?s price tag was reported by some as $100 million, and Hemlock Grove, it?s said, is budgeted at $40 million for 13 episodes ? otherwise known as about $3 million an episode. That?s real TV money ? in fact, it?s the same budget as Breaking Bad.
It?s a long time until the spring of 2013, but looking forward it?s hard to imagine a more important signpost for the convergence of television and the web than Arrested Development. If it succeeds, it?ll legitimize a whole new distribution platform and business model. And if it fails, well, we?ll at least get to see Tobias in his cutoffs again.

LightPointe Targets India Wireless Backhaul Market, as 4G Solutions Are Discussed at Mobile Backhaul 2012 Convention in New Delhi

July revenues were up over 180%, compared to last year. ??? The Florida Heiken Children?s Vision Program is offering comprehensive eye exams and glasses if necessary, for Florida public school students in your county who qualify to participate. This program is available at no cost to you or your child?s school. Qualifying students are those who have failed their school based vision screening twice, are a participant of the free or reduced school lunch program administered by the Florida Department of Education, and have no insurance.
??? If during eligibility verification by the Florida Heiken Children?s Vision Program and the Florida Optometric Physicians Network, your child is found to be enrolled in a participating vision insurance plan, you will be notified by your school and considered ineligible to participate in the program. If your child is able to participate after verification, we will send you a form through your child?s school with the name, address and phone number to a participating doctor, for you to call and schedule an appointment. The doctor will also receive the same form and have your child?s information on file.
??? The comprehensive eye exam, administered by an optometrist, includes a thorough examination of your child?s vision, visual system and eye health. In order to perform the examination, the use of eye drops to dilate the pupils is used, which allows the doctor to get the most accurate eye health information and prescription for eye glasses should they benefit your child. The drops are safe to use, and severe adverse reactions are extremely rare. Light sensitivity and blurry near vision are normal for up to four to six hours following the exam.
