The VA Palo Alto Health Care System?s Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service has been awarded the Veteran Health Administration?s Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service of the Year Award. ?The local was chosen over 152 other offices around the country.
The team was judged on innovative processes, customer service, nationally-recognized survey results and compliance with performance measurements.
?This was truly a team effort,? said Dustin Thompson, Chief of the VA Palo Alto Health Care System?s Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service. ?My staff really stepped up and were willing to try new ways of doing things...We come to work every day to take care of the Veterans, first and foremost. We don?t do what we do because we think we may get an award. We do it because it?s our passion -- but it is great when you are recognized for those results.?
One of the areas of success was decreasing the number of pending work orders by 75 percent. According to Thompson, this was accomplished by assigning work orders to technicians based upon specialized skills, work quality and processing time.
