NEW YORK - Curtis Granderson misplayed Peter Ciriaco's ninth-inning flyball into a go-ahead triple, and the Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees 8-6 Saturday night after Mark Teixeira had tied the score with a two-run homer off nemesis Vicente Padilla.
Down 6-1, the Yankees closed in the fifth on Jayson Nix's two-run homer off Jon Lester and Derek Jeter's RBI grounder.
After Teixeira's homer in the eighth, Rafael Soriano (2-1) walked Jacoby Ellsbury with one out in the ninth and Ciriaco hit a fly that could have been caught. Granderson broke in, then went back and turned the wrong way before the ball dropped to his right-field side as he fell. Dustin Pedroia followed with a sacrifice fly.
Andrew Miller (3-1) got one out for the win, just the second for Boston in eight games against the Yankees this year.

Reds continue to roll, win 10th straight

DENVER (AP) - Mat Latos felt the weight of the Cincinnati Reds' winning streak when he took the mound.
After getting roughed up by the first two batters he faced on Sunday, the big right-hander settled down and kept Cincinnati rolling.
Latos pitched eight strong innings, and Drew Stubbs homered to lift Cincinnati over the Colorado Rockies 7-2 and give the Reds their 10th straight win - their longest streak in 14 years.
The Reds also won 10 straight in 1998, and now they are two wins away from tying the franchise mark that has been done twice - most recently in 1957.
Cincinnati opened a three-game lead over Pittsburgh in NL Central, its biggest edge since mid-June.
"They're not going to go away, that's fairly obviously at this point," outfielder Jay Bruce said of the Pirates. "We have some series left with them, but anytime you can gain a game it's great."
Bruce also homered and Stubbs drove in three runs. Ryan Hanigan and Zack Cozart had two hits each for the Reds, who have won 17 of 19.
The Reds have swept four of five series since the All-Star break and they are a season-best 21 games above .500 (61-40). They have won nine straight road games, including all six on this just-completed trip.
"I'm always talking a perfect road trip and we finally had one," Reds manager Dusty Baker said.
Latos (9-3) didn't want to be the one to stop the Reds' momentum, and he rose to the challenge. He allowed four hits and struck out eight.
"A lot of pressure coming into the game knowing we won nine in a row, but I just attacked them," Latos said. "Today it was in the back of my mind, but it's baseball. Just play."
Things didn't start well. Latos walked Dexter Fowler on five pitches, and Josh Rutledge homered on the first pitch he saw from Latos to give the Rockies a 2-1 lead.
"It was a fastball away. It looked like I beat him but he got it up in the air and into a bad part of the ballpark where it flies out," Latos said.
It was the only bright spot for Colorado, which has lost three straight and nine of 11.
"Josh jumped on that first pitch fastball in the bottom of the first inning after Dexter drew a walk, and then that was it," Rockies manager Jim Tracy said.
The Reds took a 3-2 lead into the fifth, then broke it open against Jonathan Sanchez (0-2). Cozart led off with a single, and Stubbs hit his 12th home run.
One out later, Bruce hit his 20th homer into the second deck in right to make it 6-2 and chase Sanchez.
Sanchez, acquired from Kansas City for Jeremy Guthrie on July 20, didn't fare much better than the pitcher he replaced. In his home debut, Sanchez allowed six runs and eight hits, struck out three and walked two. He has failed to pitch at least five innings in either of his starts for Colorado.
"I got hit a lot," he said. "I was throwing strikes and they were swinging the bats."
Miguel Cairo added an RBI single in the eighth off Mike Ekstrom to make it 7-2.
Cincinnati took the lead with carbon-copy plays in consecutive innings. In the second, Chris Heisey led off with a triple and scored on Cairo's sacrifice fly. Cozart followed with a leadoff triple in the third and came home on Stubbs' sacrifice fly to give the Reds a 3-2 lead.
"The bats have picked up the past couple of days," Bruce said. "We've been doing what we need to do. Whether it's the long ball, base hits, sac flies, we've been playing really good baseball."
The Reds struck first when Brandon Phillips' single scored Stubbs from second base in the first. The Rockies answered in the bottom half when Rutledge homered.
"Latos threw the ball great," Baker said. "Other than that first-inning, two-run homer he was lights out. We got some timely hits out of guys."
Phillips left the game in the fifth inning with cramping in his left calf but said he should be fine.
"I'm all right. The knot is still there but I'll be OK," he said. "People were saying it was the altitude, the dry heat, I didn't drink enough water or something. I'm ready to play (Monday). I think I'm going to play."

There is no magic button that you can press that will make things better, but there are some techniques that will help you improve your chances.
Since you are just one of many people looking for work, you are going to have to make sure that your job application stands out from the competition. Here are five ways to do just that:
- Think like an employer. This means you need to explain how your experience and skills will specifically benefit the organization. Don't assume the hiring manager will be able to connect the dots.
- Use buzz words. Key words should be sprinkled throughout your resume. These will help your application come up first if the employer uses an applicant tracking system. If you are unsure which words to use, look at the job description the employer posted and see which phrases are most prevalent.
- Network. Not all jobs will be posted online, so making contacts will be crucial to your job search efforts. It's also much easier to get hired if you can get a good recommendation from someone who already works at the organization.
- Know your strengths. Highlight your strongest accomplishments from your previous jobs. Employers are more interested in what you accomplished than where you worked.
- Make goals. Create a list of what you want to accomplish each day. It's much easier to stay focused when you have attainable goals you can reach. For example, you can make it a point to apply to three jobs a day or make two new networking contacts.

The hearing of the Judiciary Committee?s subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Human Rights arises in a particularly heated election season in which new political spending enabled by Citizens United has played a prominent role. The hearing was chaired by Sen. Richard Durbin (D) of Illinois and was entirely a production of Democratic members of the Senate.
?I believe, as you believe, that the solution here is a constitutional amendment to restore the power to the hands of the people, not the corporations,? said Senator Max Baucus (D) of Montana, one of the witnesses.
?My proposal would right the wrong of Citizens United ? simply overturn it ? and give back to the people, like those in Montana, the ability to once again say we are not for sale,? he said.
A campaign to amend the Constitution is already underway with nearly 1.9 million signatures, supportive resolutions from 275 cities and towns, and the backing of state legislatures in California, Maryland, Hawaii, Vermont, and Rhode Island.
Senator Durbin compared the campaign finance issue to other historic national problems that required constitutional amendments to resolve, such as ending slavery, extending the vote to women, and invalidating poll taxes.
?I have reached the conclusion that a constitutional amendment is necessary,? Senator Durbin said. ?It is an uphill battle. It may take years.?
The hearing came a week after a campaign spending disclosure law ? the DISCLOSE Act ? was bottled up in the US Senate by Republican opposition. It also comes amid what is expected to be the most expensive presidential election season in history ? including massive spending by so-called super PACs.
The Citizens United decision and a related federal appeals court ruling five months later set the stage for the current proliferation of organizations seeking to influence the outcome of national elections while working independently of candidates and their political parties.
By remaining independent they are protected by the First Amendment from federal campaign finance restrictions, under the court decisions.
President Obama and other Democrats have denounced the Citizens United decision as a setback for American democracy by empowering wealthy corporations at the expense of ordinary voters.
Republicans have defended the decision on free speech grounds. Not a single Republican committee member made an appearance at Tuesday?s hearing.
The hearing featured Senator Baucus and three other Democratic lawmakers who have introduced measures designed to undercut or completely overturn Citizens United.

Several carriers increased domestic round-trip airfares on Friday and Saturday by $4 to $10, following an initial hike by United Airlines.
The participation of Southwest Airlines, known as a budget airline, "virtually assures the hike will stick," said Rick Seaney, CEO of FareCompare.com.
The increase is the seventh hike attempt of the year, and the fourth time that domestic fares have been successfully raised since January.

Airlines were more aggressive about raising prices last year and early this year as jet-fuel costs soared. They grew cautious as the economy weakened in the second quarter, and they were under less pressure to raise prices because fuel costs eased starting in April.

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Paris Jackson waited at home Sunday, hoping for a phone call from her grandmother, the woman who has cared for her since her father, Michael Jackson, died three years ago.
"yes, my grandmother is missing," Paris Jackson, 14, tweeted Sunday morning. "i haven't spoken with her in a week i want her home now."
A nephew reported Jackson family matriarch Katherine Jackson, 82, missing late Saturday after her grandchildren were unable to get in touch with her for a week.
It is the latest chapter in a messy dispute between several of Jackson's children and her advisers over her finances and legal affairs.
Jackson's nephew, Trent, filed the report with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office. But one of her sons involved in the dispute said in a series of Twitter postings Friday that Katherine Jackson was fine and resting in Arizona.
"I want to reassure everyone (inc all sudden medical experts) that Mother is fine but is resting up in AZ on the orders of a doctor, not us," Jermaine Jackson tweeted.
"This is our mother and her health is paramount. We are not inventing or plotting anything. We are following doctor's advice. Period," he added.
Paris Jackson's responded to her uncle's claim with her own tweet early Sunday. "the same doctor that testified on behalf of dr murray saying my father was a drug addict (a lie) is caring for my grandmother... just saying" she tweeted.The doctor who examined Jackson at her home on July 14 was Dr. Allan Metzger, according to Katherine Jackson attorney Sandra Ribera. Metzger was a defense expert witness for Dr. Conrad Murray last year. Murray was subsequently convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Michael Jackson's death.
Dr. Metzger was brought into Jackson's Calabasas, California, home "under false pretenses" by saying he was sent by her primary care physician, Ribera said. "We came to find out that her doctor has no association with Dr. Metzger."
The doctor advised Jackson that it was better for her to take a plane on a trip planned for the next day, rather than ride in a RV driven by Trent Jackson, Ribera said.
Jackson left with her oldest daughter, Rebbie, the next day to fly to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to attend a Jackson brothers concert two days later, she said. But she never arrived at the concert, Ribera said.
When Paris Jackson called her aunts Rebbie and Janet over the past several days to find her grandmother, she was told each time she could not speak to her, Ribera said.
In another tweet, Paris Jackson gave out her bodyguard's phone number and asked people to call the authorities if they saw her grandmother.
"The kids were trying to get a hold of their grandmother and they haven't been able to reach her for almost a week," Ribera said. "They are told she's unavailable."
"I'm concerned that she's not safe," Ribera added.
Jackson "has never gone 24 hours without talking to her kids," she said. "I'm concerned that she would never do this. We have no idea what's going on with her. No one has talked to her."
CNN reached out to Janet Jackson's representatives several times but did not hear back.
The sheriff's homicide-missing persons unit has been asked to investigate, Ribera said.
A letter was made public Wednesday in which two daughters, Rebbie and Janet, and three sons -- Jermaine, Randy and Tito -- charge that Katherine Jackson was being mistreated by the executors of Michael Jackson's estate and mis-advised by her manager and lawyer.
